Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN) committee members discussed the development of a specific Aboriginal webpage for Dubbo. The Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN) committee approved and requested a sub-committee be formed to undertake the process of development of the webpage.
The aim of the website:
The website is a central point of reference for people that may include information provided by various agencies which provide support to the Aboriginal community.
Develop and promote improved service delivery for Aboriginal people throughout Dubbo by networking and sharing the information on issues affecting our community.
It will act as a linkage between the organisations we work with and also is to support the Dubbo Community Working Party (DCWP).
It will also enhance community involvement and promote harmony and social cohesion.
Dubbo Aboriginal Community Working Party (DCWP) supports the project?
The Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN) committee was to source, or call for expression of interest in the development of the website. A suggestion was raised that an approach be made to a Government department to sponsor the website. The NSW Aboriginal Housing office is involved with the local Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN), and fully supported the concept of the website project and approved to fund the project, along with Housing NSW and Department of Aboriginal Affairs (DAA).
The need to continue an ongoing commitment and support to the local people is a critical component with the establishment of a service provider directory. A priority is it allows both Government and non-government agencies to work together in bridging gaps for the local Aboriginal community - formalising partnerships.
The interagency had commissioned a local IT company Bosweb Systems to design, and construct the webpage in conjunction with the sub-committee formed from various Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN) members.
Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN) officially launched the webpage on 3 September 2008 by the Minister for Housing, and we invited ALL Government & non-government agencies with Aboriginal representatives, Elders, Aboriginal organisations (Thubbo Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS), Allira, and Apollo Centre), local member, Mayor for Dubbo, Councillors of Dubbo City Council, and Community Working party members.
Dubbo Koori Interagency Network (DKIN) committee fully supported the concept of the website project. The project meets the criteria of important to the community, quick to implement low cost and highly visible.
The website will be celebrating on the 3 September, first year of going on line. The website has had tremendous response since being launched with visit globally all over the world from various people wanting information about Dubbo, about Aboriginal history and Aboriginal culture.
