Services provided:

Circle Sentencing Court, which is an alternative sentencing court for Aboriginal Adult offenders.

Circle Sentencing Courts aims to:

      • Established a sentencing format which allows for Aboriginal community involvement,
      • Established a sentencing format which allows for Aboriginal community control,
      • Empower Aboriginal communities in the sentencing process,
      • Increase Aboriginal community confidence in the sentencing process,
      • Reduce barriers between Aboriginal communities and courts,
      • Provide effective support to Aboriginal defendants when completing sentences,
      • Provide support to Aboriginal victims of crime,
      •  Reduce offending in Aboriginal communities.

Target group:

 

Elders, respected community member to not only undertake assessment to see if offender is eligible but also to be involved with the sentencing of that offender at the Circle Sentencing Courts.

 

Any Adult Aboriginal offender whose matter can be finalised by the Local Court
